Today our beautiful little girl is one week old. And I HATE it, because its going too fast.
But it has been the most amazing week ever. It all started last sunday when I started having contractions every 20 minutes, and by 4 that afternoon they were coming every 10 minutes so I thought to myself, she is coming to night I just know it. Well nothing seemed to progress and they said come to the hospital when contractions are every 5 minutes or closer. So that night Jeff and I went for a walk trying to get things moving and to no avail they stayed the same. I was unable to sleep that night because they were still coming every 10 minutes and are not condusive to sleep. Finally at about 3 in the morning they started getting stronger, not so much closer together but stronger. So at about 6 in the morning I decided to call the hospital because I was strep B positive which just meant that I needed to be on antibiotics for about 4 hours or more before she came. So when I called they told me to at least come in so they could see what was going on. So we left thinking that they would probably just send me home, but better safe than sorry. We got there at about a quarter to seven. They checked me and said I was dialated to about a 3 and they would give me an hour and see if anything changes. An hour came, they came in again and nothing had changed so they said they would give me on more but they were probably just going to send me home. I was a little disappointed at the sound of that. Well twenty minutes later I looked at Jeff and said either my water just broke or I totally just peed. Jeff thought that was pretty funny so we called the nurse back in and she checked and sure enough my water had broke. She told us that we were defantly staying now and that they were going to move me into a delivery room. When we got into the room they got the IVs going and gave me some oxytocin which helps get the contractions going more regular and stronger. By a little after 11 they were coming every 3 minutes and lasting for about a minute and a half and really painful to the point that I really wanted to cry. But I didn't. Im so proud of myself! So I had them give me the epidural and not even five mintes later I was feeling great. I was so tired and wanted to fall asleep and my mom and sisters came and the nurses came so I wasn't able to sleep. And since my dr was out of town the on call dr came in and talked to us and told us that her shift ended at 5 so she was going to get her out before then. I really liked the sound of that. So at about 2 they came in and checked me again and I was only at a four so my mom decided to go to the mall and my dad took my sisters to my grandmas so it was nice and quiet in the room, just Jeff and I at last. Jeff sat and read his cycling magazines and I ended up falling asleep for about forty minutes. I woke up feeling great, and Jeff and I sat and talked and we were watching the monitors and my contractions were slowing down and not getting so intense so we both thought that she definately wasn't coming by five, it was 3 already. My mom ended up coming back and they came and checked me again and told Jeff and I that I was ready to go and if i did a good job she would be there in about twenty minutes. Both of us were so excited possibly a little scared and nervous about what awaited. They had me do a few practice pushes and had the dr come as soon as possible. When the dr came in I pushed through two contractions and she was out. Just like they said twenty minutes and our little girl was finally here. They placed her on my tummy and, not going to lie, it was pretty creepy. She was so swollen and her color was a grayish purple. It kinda freaked me out. but they cleared out her lungs and within minutes she was a healthy pink color. They took her and cleaned her up, weighed her and she weighed 7 lbs and 7oz and was 21.5 inches long. I said to Jeff after that I was really glad that it went so well because if it hadn't I would really not want to have any more kids, with how bad every thing else was. They finished cleaning her up and put her in Jeffs arms and I saw a whole new man in him. So proud, and happy.

This was taken about 5 minutes after she was born. I love this picture because even though she is really swollen, you cant help but look at those big perfect lips and not fall in love with her.

Sophie with her beautiful eyes open
Pretty in pink
She has been such a blessing in our lives. Jeff even said to me the other day... Why did we wait so long to have her? She has brought so much love into this home. Jeff and I just can't get enough of her; we can't stop staring at how beautiful and perfect she is. Its funny she looks exactly, and I mean exactly, like I did as a baby, I will have to scan my picture in and do another post later. But I really really love being a mother, I would not change it for the world. I feel like I am the most blessed person in the world right now; I have a beautiful and healthy daughter, and a super amazing husband that is the greatest father. And i just have to thank my heavenly father for them both.
